Representing a creative conversation between Kim Jones, Travis Scott and Christian Dior, the Summer 2022 men’s collection is named Cactus Jack Dior after the musical artist’s record label. A celebratory fusion of Americana and the House’s heritage, the collection looks to Monsieur Dior’s 1947 visit to Texas - Travis Scott’s birthplace - where he was wowed by the immensity of the landscapes, the sun-bleached palette of which is replicated here. Inspired by this deep-rooted link with the United States, even the show scenography features a surrealistic replication of the desert terrain combined with elements of the founding couturier’s childhood rose garden. The House's tailoring savoir-faire underpins the collection, and includes a high-fastening 'Dior Oblique' jacket that brings formality to sportswear such as track pants and band t-shirts with couture detailing. Travis Scott’s redrawing of the Dior logo is joined by reworking of other motifs such as the 'Dior Oblique' which now spells 'Jack', a 1960s archival diamond monogram, and the toile de Jouy which gets a desert scene update as the 'Toile de Cactus'. The men's 'Dior Saddle' bag is introduced in a new double version with a sturdy stirrup handle, and the headwear by Stephen Jones mixes French bucket hats with American beanies. Dior Joaillerie Creative Director, Victoire de Castellane collaborated on a high jewelry, gem-set cactus necklace, produced specially for the show. Another collaboration comes in the form of American visual artist George Condo who hand-painted a series of unique shirts intended to be auctioned for charity after the show.
